A customized box does not make a product ready for market.
It may look ready. The logo is in place. The barcode has been added. The supplier has sent several white-background images, and the first cartons are waiting to ship.
Then the sales team begins asking questions.
Which roof materials can the magnetic mount be used on? Is the suction version intended for glass only? Does the product page show the same hardware that is inside the box? Which weight should be entered into the marketplace listing? Is the barcode assigned to the individual unit or the carton? Can the customer leave the mount installed while driving?
If these questions are being answered after production, the packaging project started too early.
An OEM launch pack should connect four things:
- the physical product;
- the retail packaging;
- the online product page;
- the reseller’s sales and support process.
All four should describe the same product, in the same way, using the same identity and application boundaries.
That is what turns a customized accessory into a repeatable channel product.
Packaging begins after the product is locked
Artwork should not be the first OEM deliverable.
Before packaging design begins, the buyer and supplier should already have approved:
- the product model;
- compatible terminal;
- dimensions;
- materials;
- hardware;
- included parts;
- suitable surfaces;
- unsuitable surfaces;
- intended use;
- logo method;
- product name;
- SKU;
- packaging quantity.
For Starlink Mini-compatible mounting products, the intended application needs particular attention.
A magnetic mount should not be presented as a general solution for every metal-looking vehicle roof. Aluminium, fibreglass, glass and plastic are not suitable magnetic mounting surfaces.
A suction cup mount should not be described as the automatic answer for every non-magnetic roof. It depends on a clean, smooth, non-porous surface and full suction-cup contact.
If these distinctions are still being debated, the product specification is not ready for final artwork.
Packaging can communicate a product clearly. It cannot repair an unclear product definition.
Build an OEM Channel Launch Pack
A useful launch pack should contain six connected files.
1. Product Identity Sheet
This defines exactly what is being sold.
2. Packaging Specification
This defines how the product is packed, labelled and shipped.
3. Instructions and Warning File
This explains how the customer should evaluate, install, inspect and remove the product.
4. Visual Asset Library
This gives distributors the images and videos needed to sell the correct product.
5. Listing Data Sheet
This provides consistent information for websites, marketplaces, product feeds and warehouse systems.
6. Sales and Support Kit
This helps resellers qualify customers and answer common questions before a return occurs.
These files should be approved together.
A change to the physical product may require changes to the instructions, photographs, packaging, data sheet and sales FAQ. Treating them as one launch pack makes those dependencies easier to control.
File 1: Product Identity Sheet
Every private-label SKU needs one source of truth.
The Product Identity Sheet should include:
- buyer brand;
- product name;
- supplier product code;
- buyer SKU;
- MPN, where used;
- product revision;
- compatible terminal;
- color;
- overall dimensions;
- net product weight;
- material description;
- included components;
- replacement parts;
- logo position;
- retail-packaging version.
Do not use several product names for the same item.
For example, one team may call the product:
- Mini Magnetic Mount;
- Starlink Car Roof Mount;
- Magnetic Vehicle Bracket;
- Mini Roof Holder.
That creates confusion across the website, packaging, invoices, warehouse and customer-service records.
Choose one primary name and one defined compatibility statement.
A practical structure is:
[Buyer Brand] Magnetic Mount Compatible With Starlink Mini
The buyer’s brand leads the identity. “Compatible with Starlink Mini” explains the intended terminal.
Starlink’s intellectual-property guidance says the Starlink name, logo and other trademarks should not be used to endorse a product or entity without express written permission, except where permitted under applicable trademark law. OEM packaging should therefore avoid presenting an independent accessory as official, authorized or manufactured by Starlink.
The Starlink logo should not be copied onto the package or product. The packaging design should be visibly led by the buyer’s own brand.
A compatibility notice may state:
Designed for use with Starlink Mini. This is an independent third-party accessory and is not manufactured, endorsed or authorized by SpaceX or Starlink.
Trademark and labelling requirements vary by country, so the final presentation should be reviewed for the intended sales markets.
File 2: Packaging Specification
The Packaging Specification should cover three levels.
Unit packaging
This is the package received by the final customer.
Record:
- packaging type;
- box dimensions;
- complete packed weight;
- internal protection;
- included accessories;
- parts bags;
- instruction card;
- barcode position;
- product label;
- sealing method;
- required warning labels.
Inner or multipack carton
Some buyers group several retail units into an inner carton.
Record:
- units per inner carton;
- carton dimensions;
- gross weight;
- product orientation;
- dividers;
- inner-carton label.
Master export carton
This is the carton used for warehouse handling and international shipping.
Record:
- retail units per carton;
- master-carton dimensions;
- net weight;
- gross weight;
- carton material;
- carton markings;
- batch code;
- production date;
- SKU;
- destination information;
- handling symbols;
- pallet configuration, where applicable.
These details should come from a physically packed production sample.
Do not calculate final shipping data from an empty packaging dieline or from the product alone. Screws, tools, inserts, instruction cards and protective materials all affect the packed weight.
A small error repeated across hundreds of units can affect freight quotations, warehouse fees and marketplace fulfillment costs.
The front of the box should qualify the customer
The front panel has limited space.
Use it to communicate the product identity and main eligibility rule, not every possible benefit.
For a magnetic mount, the front or primary side panel could include:
Temporary magnetic mounting for confirmed flat steel surfaces.
For a suction cup mount:
Temporary suction mounting for clean, smooth and non-porous surfaces.
These statements are more useful than vague claims such as:
- Universal vehicle mount;
- Fits all RVs;
- Any-surface installation;
- Perfect for every journey.
The product may receive fewer incorrect clicks. It is also more likely to reach customers who can actually use it.
Use the rear panel to prevent predictable mistakes
The back of the package should answer the questions customers normally ask after opening the box.
For a magnetic mount, show:
Suitable examples
- confirmed flat steel roof section;
- flat steel vehicle panel;
- temporary parked setup.
Not suitable
- aluminium;
- fibreglass;
- glass;
- plastic;
- sharply curved or ribbed surfaces;
- permanent or mobile installation unless separately engineered and approved.
For a suction cup mount, show:
Suitable examples
- clean vehicle glass;
- smooth non-porous panel;
- full suction-cup contact;
- temporary parked setup.
Not suitable
- rough or textured roofs;
- porous surfaces;
- rubber membranes;
- heavy curvature;
- window seals;
- partial suction-cup contact.
Use photographs or simple diagrams rather than relying only on text.
A photograph of a suction cup crossing a window seal can be understood faster than a paragraph warning against uneven surfaces.
File 3: Instructions and Warning File
The instruction card is not an afterthought inserted into the box.
It is one of the most important customer-service tools in the product.
For both mount types, instructions should cover:
- Confirm product and terminal compatibility.
- Identify the intended mounting surface.
- Inspect the surface for shape, damage and contamination.
- Clean and dry the contact area.
- Install the terminal and mount in the correct sequence.
- Confirm complete contact.
- Check the proposed position in the Starlink App.
- Route the cable safely.
- Inspect the setup during use.
- Remove and store the equipment correctly.
The instructions should also state what the mount does not solve.
A suitable surface does not guarantee a clear satellite view. A clear sky position does not guarantee the surface is suitable for the mount. These are separate checks.
Use short instructions supported by images.
Customers are more likely to follow six illustrated steps than a page of dense legal text.
Add a QR code carefully
A QR code can link to:
- installation video;
- updated instructions;
- surface-selection guide;
- FAQ;
- warranty registration;
- customer support.
The destination should remain stable.
Do not print a QR code that points to a temporary cloud folder, an employee’s personal account or a video that may be removed after launch.
The printed instructions should still contain the main safety and compatibility information. The customer should not need internet access to discover that the mount is unsuitable for their roof.
File 4: Visual Asset Library
A useful OEM image package should show more than a clean product on a white background.
It should help the customer make a decision.
Build the visual library in seven groups.
Group 1: Product identity images
Include:
- front view;
- rear view;
- side view;
- top view;
- three-quarter view;
- logo close-up;
- complete assembled product.
These images should show the approved production version.
Group 2: Detail images
Show:
- mounting interface;
- magnets or suction cups;
- protective contact pads;
- adjustment points;
- fasteners;
- material finish;
- cable-clearance area;
- locking or retention features.
These details help distributors explain why the product differs from a generic bracket.
Group 3: Packing-content image
Lay every included component out clearly.
Show:
- main mount;
- screws;
- washers;
- knobs;
- tools;
- pads;
- spare components;
- instructions.
The product-page image must match the contents of the delivered retail box.
Group 4: Dimension diagram
Include:
- overall width;
- length;
- height;
- critical mounting dimensions;
- packed dimensions where useful;
- net weight.
Use the same units expected in the target market. Where the channel serves several regions, provide both millimetres and inches.
Group 5: Correct-use images
For the magnetic mount, show the product installed on a confirmed flat steel surface.
For the suction cup mount, show every cup fully seated on clean glass or another suitable smooth surface.
These photographs should be realistic enough to support customer decisions. Avoid angles that hide the actual mounting contact.
Group 6: Incorrect-use images
This is often the most valuable group.
Show examples such as:
- magnetic mount placed on aluminium;
- base crossing a roof ridge;
- suction cup placed partly on a rubber seal;
- suction cup on textured fibreglass;
- mount placed too close to a glass edge;
- temporary mount being treated as a structural mobile installation.
Mark each image clearly as unsuitable.
A good incorrect-use image can prevent an order from the wrong customer—and prevent a return later.
Group 7: Packaging and logistics images
Include:
- retail box;
- opened retail box;
- inner protection;
- product label;
- barcode;
- master carton;
- carton markings;
- units packed inside the carton.
These images are useful for distributors, warehouses and freight planning.
Create a fixed shot list before photography
Do not tell a photographer only to “take some product photos.”
Use an asset checklist with:
- file name;
- shot description;
- product version;
- angle;
- background;
- required dimensions;
- intended channel;
- required annotations;
- approval status.
A simple naming structure might be:
- MAG-MOUNT-FRONT-01
- MAG-MOUNT-STEEL-USE-01
- MAG-MOUNT-ALUMINIUM-NO-01
- SUCTION-GLASS-USE-01
- SUCTION-SEAL-NO-01
- MAG-PACKING-CONTENTS-01
Consistent filenames save time when dozens of distributors request images in different formats.
Keep original high-resolution files, web-optimized versions and editable diagram files separately.
File 5: Listing Data Sheet
The Listing Data Sheet connects the physical product with ecommerce systems.
It should contain:
- product title;
- short description;
- full description;
- brand;
- SKU;
- MPN;
- GTIN, where legitimately assigned;
- compatible terminal;
- material;
- color;
- dimensions;
- net weight;
- packed weight;
- package dimensions;
- carton quantity;
- suitable surfaces;
- unsuitable surfaces;
- included parts;
- installation type;
- warranty;
- return conditions;
- image filenames;
- video link;
- barcode;
- country of origin;
- customs information where confirmed;
- available stock;
- lead time.
One approved spreadsheet or product-information file should feed:
- the brand website;
- distributor listings;
- marketplaces;
- catalogues;
- quotation sheets;
- warehouse records;
- Merchant Center;
- structured data.
The objective is not merely efficiency.
It prevents contradictory information from appearing across sales channels.
Do not invent product identifiers
Private-label buyers often ask whether a barcode is required.
The answer depends on the channel and the way the product is identified.
Where a legitimate GTIN has been assigned, it should be used accurately. Google explicitly warns sellers not to guess or fabricate GTINs and notes that each variant should use the correct identifier.
For a private-label product that does not have an assigned GTIN, Google Merchant Center advises sellers not to submit a false GTIN. Instead, the seller can provide its private-label brand and MPN where applicable.
The buyer should therefore decide early:
- whether the sales channel requires a GTIN;
- who will obtain and control it;
- whether each variant needs its own identifier;
- how the SKU, MPN and barcode relate;
- whether the retail unit and master carton use different codes.
Do not print thousands of boxes until a test barcode has been scanned and matched to the correct product record.
Keep the website data aligned with the package
The packaging may say:
Magnetic mount for confirmed flat steel surfaces.
The website should not say:
Universal magnetic mount for all vehicles and RVs.
The box may show four included screws.
The product page should not show six.
The carton may list a gross weight of 12 kg.
The logistics sheet should not say 10.5 kg.
Use a Packaging-to-Page Matrix to check consistency.

The matrix does not need to be complicated.
Its purpose is to identify contradictions before customers do.
Prepare the page for search and shopping systems
A private-label product page should be built as a clearly identified product, not as a generic paragraph inside a broad accessory page.
Google’s product documentation says that Product structured data can help product information appear more richly in Search, Google Images and Google Lens. Merchant-listing markup can include details such as price, availability, shipping and return information. Google also recommends combining on-page structured data with Merchant Center feeds where appropriate.
The page should therefore provide accurate, visible information for:
- brand;
- product name;
- description;
- SKU or MPN;
- legitimate GTIN, if assigned;
- price;
- availability;
- shipping;
- return policy;
- original images;
- product variants;
- package contents.
Structured data should match what the customer can see on the page.
Do not add hidden claims, ratings or availability information that is not supported by the visible product page.
File 6: Sales and Support Kit
A distributor needs more than images.
They need a fast way to decide which customers are suitable.
The Sales and Support Kit should contain:
One-page product comparison
Compare magnetic and suction cup versions by:
- suitable surface;
- unsuitable surface;
- installation style;
- typical customer;
- main pre-purchase check;
- primary limitation.
Five-minute qualification form
Ask:
- Where will the mount be installed?
- What is the surface material?
- Is the surface flat or smooth enough for full contact?
- Will the equipment be removed before driving?
- Has the customer checked the location in the Starlink App?
Customer-photo request
Provide a standard message:
Please send one full photo of the vehicle and one close-up photo of the intended mounting area. For a magnetic mount, test the exact surface with a small magnet before ordering.

Cover:
- steel versus aluminium;
- glass requirements;
- RV roof materials;
- temporary versus permanent mounting;
- installation and removal;
- replacement parts;
- product compatibility;
- warranty handling.
Return-reason codes
Encourage resellers to record:
- non-magnetic surface;
- unsuitable suction surface;
- insufficient mounting area;
- unexpected curvature;
- wrong terminal;
- expected mobile use;
- missing component;
- product defect;
- unclear instructions.
Return data should improve the next packaging and listing revision.
Localize the meaning, not only the words
A translated instruction card can still be poor if it copies wording that does not fit the market.
Localization should check:
- units of measurement;
- terminology used by local vehicle owners;
- regulatory statements;
- importer information;
- customer-service details;
- warranty process;
- barcode requirements;
- recycling or packaging labels;
- reading direction;
- image relevance.
A Central Asian distributor may prefer Russian or another local language alongside English. An Amazon seller may need marketplace-specific image dimensions. An installer may prefer a compact technical sheet rather than a decorative retail leaflet.
The underlying product rules should remain the same, but the presentation can be adjusted to the channel.
Use one approved source-language file so that later translations do not drift apart.
Approve a complete packed unit
Before mass production, the buyer should approve more than the printed box.
Request a fully packed pre-production unit containing:
- production-equivalent product;
- all hardware;
- instruction card;
- protective materials;
- finished label;
- barcode;
- retail packaging;
- proposed carton arrangement.
Review it as a customer would.
Open the box without supplier guidance. Identify the parts. Follow the instructions. Scan the QR code. Check the barcode. Install the product. Pack it again.
Ask:
- Is the correct use obvious?
- Are small parts easy to lose?
- Does anything move inside the box?
- Can painted parts scratch each other?
- Does the instruction show the delivered version?
- Is the customer warned before making the common mistakes?
- Does the box still close properly after inspection?
- Is the package suitable for parcel delivery?
A packaging project is not approved when the artwork looks attractive.
It is approved when the complete product works as a packaged retail unit.
Inspect the first production batch
For the first branded shipment, compare units from several cartons with the approved sample.
Check:
- product version;
- logo;
- color;
- included parts;
- fasteners;
- protective pads;
- instruction version;
- retail-box print;
- barcode;
- QR code;
- product label;
- carton quantity;
- carton markings;
- gross weight.
Also open cartons from different areas of the shipment.
The first carton may be correct while later cartons contain an older instruction card or a different parts bag.
Photograph the inspection and keep the results with the batch record.
Common packaging and sales-material failures
The product image does not match the delivered version
The bracket, knob, pad or packaging changed after photography.
The box lists benefits but not eligibility
Customers understand what the product promises but not whether their surface is suitable.
The magnetic and suction products use almost identical copy
The important application difference becomes difficult to see.
The instructions begin after installation
The customer is not told to inspect the surface before attaching the mount.
The product page uses unsupported performance claims
Holding-force or speed claims are published without a defined test method.
The private-label brand is weaker than the compatibility brand
The package looks like an official Starlink item instead of an independent accessory.
Barcode and SKU records are inconsistent
The warehouse, website and package identify the product differently.
Distributor images cannot be edited
The supplier provides only compressed images with text permanently embedded.
Marketing assets arrive after the inventory

Every sales channel receives the same materials
A retail store, installer and marketplace seller do not need exactly the same sales tools.
The practical launch sequence
Use this order:
- Lock the physical product and application boundaries.
- Create the Product Identity Sheet.
- Confirm the private-label brand and compatibility wording.
- Define retail, inner and master-carton packaging.
- Write instructions and warnings.
- Build the packaging copy.
- Approve the packed pre-production sample.
- Photograph the approved product and packaging.
- Create the Listing Data Sheet.
- Prepare reseller comparison tools and FAQs.
- Check the Packaging-to-Page Matrix.
- Inspect the first production batch.
- Launch only when inventory and sales materials are both ready.
- Update the package and listing from real customer questions.
OEM packaging should not be treated as decoration around a product.
It is the physical version of the product promise.
The box, instructions, images, listing data and sales explanation should all help the same customer reach the same conclusion about where the product belongs—and where it does not.
